Product Basics & How It Works

Can this machine really make slush without adding ice? How does it work?

Yes — no ice is needed.

Unlike traditional slush drinks that rely on crushed ice, the Flimma AS301 freezes the liquid mixture directly using a built-in compressor cooling system. At the same time, the auger continuously stirs the mixture to create fine ice crystals.

The result is a smooth, flavorful slush with no dilution.

How long does it take to make slush? How long can it stay frozen?

Most drinks are ready within 15–30 minutes, depending on the recipe, batch size, and ingredient temperature.

Once the slush is ready, the machine automatically switches to Keep Frozen Mode, which helps maintain a smooth, consistent texture for up to 12 hours.

After 12 hours of continuous operation, the machine automatically shuts off to protect the compressor.

How long can the machine run continuously? Does it need to rest?

The machine can run continuously for up to 12 hours before automatically shutting down for compressor protection.

Before restarting, unplug the machine and allow it to cool for about 30 minutes.

For everyday use, it is also recommended to let the machine rest for 10–15 minutes between batches to help extend compressor life.

Can this machine crush ice, make ice cubes, or process frozen fruit?

No.

The machine is designed for liquid-based mixtures only and should not be used to crush ice, make ice cubes, or process frozen ingredients.

If using fruit, blend it into a smooth puree before adding it to the machine.

Is the machine noisy? Is it suitable for home use?

No — the machine operates quietly and is designed for comfortable home use.

The noise level is approximately 55 dB, similar to a modern refrigerator, normal conversation, or a quiet office environment.

For best performance and quieter operation:

  1. Place the machine on a stable, flat surface
  2. Leave enough space for ventilation:
  • At least 8 in / 20 cm on both sides
  • At least 20 in / 50 cm above the machine
  • At least 4 in / 10 cm behind the machine
What should I know before using the machine for the first time?

Before first use, keep the machine standing upright for at least 4 hours without plugging it in or operating it.

This allows the refrigerant inside the compressor to settle properly for optimal cooling performance.

During transportation or setup, do not tilt the machine more than 45°.

Why does the new machine have a plastic smell during first use?

A slight plastic smell is normal for new machines and is harmless. It comes from new manufacturing materials and usually fades after 1–2 uses.

To help reduce the smell:

1. Remove all packaging materials

2. Wash removable parts with warm soapy water

3. Run the cleaning cycle 1–2 times using clean water for 5–10 minutes

4. Leave the machine in a well-ventilated area for 2–3 hours

Usage & Recipes

Can I use any drink? Are there sugar requirements?

Most beverages will work, but the mixture must contain at least 5% sugar for proper freezing.

Regular soda or syrup diluted at a 1:5 ratio works well.

Sugar-free soda, plain water, and most sugar substitutes (except allulose) may not freeze properly in the machine.

Can I make alcoholic slush cocktails?

Yes.

The machine includes a dedicated Spiked Slush mode with a preset temperature of -7°C / 19°F.

For proper freezing, the alcohol content should remain between 2.8% and 18% ABV.

If the alcohol level is too high:

  • The mixture may not freeze properly
  • Ice may build up around the freezing cylinder
  • The auger may become stuck
  • The machine may trigger the ICE warning and stop automatically for protection

Occasional misuse may not cause immediate damage, but repeated use under these conditions can shorten compressor life.

For stronger cocktails, it is recommended to add additional alcohol after the slush is finished.

Why is my alcoholic slush too runny?

This is usually caused by one of the following:

  1. Alcohol content is above 18% ABV
  2. Sugar content is below 5%
  3. The temperature setting is not cold enough

Try the following:

  • Slightly dilute the alcohol
  • Add sugar, syrup, or honey
  • Lower the temperature by 0.5°C / 1°F
  • Allow an additional 10–15 minutes for freezing

The Spiked Slush mode already uses the coldest preset temperature, so recipe balance is especially important.

Can I make low-sugar or sugar-free slush?

Completely sugar-free slush is not recommended.

The machine requires at least 5% sugar content for proper freezing. Most sugar substitutes, such as erythritol or stevia, do not freeze the same way as standard sugar and may lead to poor texture or inconsistent results.

Can I use carbonated drinks like Coke or Sprite? Will they overflow?

Yes, but preparation is important.

Carbonated drinks contain dissolved CO₂ gas, which can create excessive foam if poured directly into the machine.

For best results:

  • Pour the drink into a separate container first
  • Let it sit for 5–10 minutes to reduce carbonation

Or gently stir to release some gas before slowly adding it to the machine

Why does the slush sometimes separate into liquid and ice?

Separation is usually caused by:

  1. Incorrect sugar or alcohol balance
  2. A temperature setting that is not cold enough
  3. A mixture that is too thick to circulate properly, such as heavy dairy or fruit puree mixtures

To improve consistency:

  • Make sure sugar content is at least 5%
  • Keep alcohol below 18% ABV
  • Lower the temperature by 0.5°C / 1°F

Let the machine run for another 30 seconds before dispensing

Can the machine make soft-serve ice cream? Are there fill limits?

Yes.

The machine includes a dedicated Soft Ice Cream mode with a preset temperature of -3.5°C / 26°F.

Because dairy mixtures expand during freezing, the maximum fill level for soft serve is: 0.75 L / 25 fl oz

For regular slush drinks, the maximum capacity is: 1.2 L / 40 fl oz

Always follow the recommended fill limit for each mode.

Can I use the machine for hot drinks?

No.

This machine is designed only for frozen beverages such as slush, milkshakes, iced coffee, and soft-serve ice cream.

Do not pour in hot water or liquids above room temperature, as this may damage the cooling system.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Is the machine difficult to clean? Are there hard-to-reach areas?

No — the machine is designed for easy cleaning.

You can clean it in two ways:

1. One-Touch Cleaning Cycle

  • Add warm water below 40°C / 104°F
  • Run the Rinse-Clean program for about 10 minutes
  • Drain the water afterward

2. Cleaning Removable Parts

The container, auger, lid, and drip tray are removable and dishwasher-safe.

However, hand washing is recommended to help extend part life.

Important: Never submerge the motor base or cooling unit in water. Wipe them only with a damp cloth.

How do I use the cleaning program?

Follow these steps:

  1. Fill the container with warm water below 40°C / 104°F up to the MAX line
  2. Close the lid securely
  3. Start the Rinse-Clean program
  4. Let the cycle run for about 10 minutes
  5. Place a large container under the spout and dispense the water
  6. Unplug the machine, allow it to cool, then remove and wash the parts
Are the parts dishwasher-safe?

Yes.

The container, auger, lid, and drip tray are all dishwasher-safe.

However, hand washing is recommended for better long-term durability.

Important: Never place the motor base or cooling unit in water or in a dishwasher.

Troubleshooting

What does the “ICE” warning mean?

The ICE warning means frozen mixture is blocking the auger and activating the machine’s protection system.

To fix the issue:

  1. Unplug the machine immediately
  2. Allow it to cool for about 15 minutes
  3. Remove the container
  4. Clear any ice buildup around the auger
  5. Reassemble and restart the machine

To help prevent this issue:

  • Keep sugar content above 5%
  • Do not exceed the maximum fill line
What does the “OPEN” message mean?

The OPEN message means the container or lid is not installed correctly.

Please make sure:

  • The container is fully inserted and locked into place
  • The lid is properly closed

The warning should disappear automatically once everything is secured.

Why did the machine suddenly stop and start beeping during cooling?

This is usually caused by the machine’s protection system being triggered.

Common causes include:

  • The ICE warning caused by frozen mixture blocking the auger
  • Incorrect sugar or alcohol balance
  • A temperature setting that is not cold enough
  • The container or lid not being installed correctly

Try the following:

  • Unplug the machine for about 15 minutes
  • Remove any ice blockage
  • Lower the temperature by 0.5°C / 1°F if needed
  • Make sure sugar content is at least 5%
  • Keep alcohol below 18% ABV
  • Check for the OPEN warning

If the issue continues, stop using the machine and contact customer support.

Do not attempt to disassemble the machine yourself.

Why does the machine stop cooling after reaching the target temperature, causing the slush to melt?

Once the target temperature is reached, the machine automatically switches to Keep Frozen Mode, where the auger continues rotating to help maintain slush consistency.

If the slush melts too quickly, please check:

  • Whether the machine has been running for more than 12 hours
  • Whether the surrounding room temperature is too high
  • Whether the ventilation openings are blocked

For the best texture and flavor, it is recommended to serve the slush shortly after preparation.
